GENERAL INFORMATION

The school was opened in 1984 by William Rubinstein, who still runs it today.
The school is located in the residential Quartier des Musiciens which is a very safe and ideally located area.

• 6 minutes from the main street avenue Jean Médecin
• 5 minutes from the railway station
• 7 minutes from the seafront.

Its new 400 square metres site, spanning the first floor includes 8 spacious classrooms.
Bright, air conditionned, and all equipped with state of the art equipment, each classroom provides the perfect ambience for learning and engaging in the French language.
A large student room is available, where pupils can benefit from computers, a library with reference books, a television, daily newspapers, magazines and vending machines.

Teachers

IHN has a dynamic team of teachers. All of them are university graduates with years of teaching experience and specialised in teaching foreign students. The ongoing development and training of teachers is a key feature of International House schools. Up-to-date methods and material are incorporated into their lessons.

Students

The students come from all over the world. Some of them are university students or professionals. Some learn French just for fun, whilst others come to prepare for the official DELF exams. They are between the ages of 17 and 40.

Materials

Beginners are lent textbooks and all students are given handouts. Teachers have access to a large resource centre allowing them to keep their course topical, using CDs and DVDs for listening comprehension.
A folder with learning advice, information about the city, and a map will be given to the students on arrival.

Test

On the first day of class students take an oral and written test to identify their level. Once this test has been corrected, they are placed in a class that corresponds to their level. Students may change levels with the agreement of the Director of Studies if they feel that they would be better suited to another class.

Certificate

At the end of the course, students are given a certificate detailing the course taken, their attendance and the level of written and spoken French they have reached.

Levels

The courses are divided into 5 differents levels - from beginner to advanced - based on the directives of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.
No matter what your level of French is, IHN will always find a class that is suitable for you.
  • A1 Beginners Level. Students at this level can deal with simple straightforward exchanges in familiar contexts. They can usually understand enough to keep a very basic conversation going.
  • A2 Pre-Intermediate Level. Students can understand and express information about the past, present and future. They can participate in everyday life, deal with most situations involved in travelling around a French speaking country and communicate personal information.
  • B1 Intermediate Level. Students can comfortably interact with native speakers. They can participate in discussions and express their opinions in familiar contexts. They can describe experiences in their past as well as explain and give reasons for their plans, desires and ambitions for the future.
  • B2 Upper Intermediate. Students can clearly express their opinions on general topics in both spoken and written forms. They are familiar with more complex structures, have achieved a good level of fluency and communicate using broader vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.
  • C1 / C2 Advanced level. Students are capable of understanding most lectures, discussions and debates. Students are able to develop a well structured argument and provide supporting evidence in both oral and written forms. They feel comfortable operating in social, academic and professional spheres.
