The Hotel San Carlu Citadelle was built in 1970 on the ruins of the house of Napoleon's child minder, facing the citadel ramparts in the St.Charles quarter, name of a bishop of Corsica and Sardegna during the XVth century.
Because of its location, the hotel have an exceptional view on Ajaccio's citadel which forts was a simple fortress built by the Genoese during the XIIve century. Then in the XVth century it was transformed into a real fortress as in Calvi, under the supervision of the same architect.
