History
In the seventeenth century, La Chenevière was a place dedicated to the cultivation of hemp, used for making rope and clothing for fishermen. In the eighteenth century, the estate became the property of the Gosset family, who built a large house that gradually became the core of a large holding of land. From 1880, Gustave and Pierre Gosset, decided to expand operations and undertake improvements to their places of residence.
During World War II, the area was occupied by the Germans. La Chenevière became the German officer’s headquarter. At the time of the D-Day landings in 1944, there were no longer any Germans in the house and the Royal Army Service Corps took residence.
In 1988 the castle was bought by Marie-Françoise and Thomas Dicker after belonging to the Gosset family for 133 years. Together, they decided to turn it into a luxury hotel.
The Chateau
A former mansion and farm, this magnificent Norman chateau of the eighteenth century, “La Chenevière”, finds its charm in the testimony of the times it went through. Constructed in an area dedicated to the cultivation of hemp in the eighteenth century, then a breeding farm for exceptional foals during the nineteenth century, the chateau was occupied by the Germans during World War II, and then the Americans after the D-Day landings. It was fully restored in 1988 to become the lush hotel-restaurant that it is today. La Chenevière has now 29 spacious and comfortable rooms that reflect the elegance and romance of its design. The decor of each room has been designed individually, but always with attention paid to the combination of modern comforts with traditional luxury.
The Grounds
La Chenevière is set in a park of 12 hectares of which 2 include the walled garden with a heated outdoor pool, a tennis court and bicycles. The rose gardens offer luxurious fragrances and many exotic trees make this place an ideal retreat to enjoy a peaceful rest.
Every year in May, La Chenevière invites France’s best artisans and nursery gardeners to its Flower Show.
The vegetable garden of La Chenevière provides fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables to the restaurant. The home-cultivated honey served at the breakfast buffet comes directly from the hives of the chateau and is also available for sale.
Pool
With its deck chairs, parasols, palm trees and more, the Château’s pool area will welcome you in a lush green setting. The outdoor pool is heated from mid May to mid September and also has a children’s pool.
A real haven of peace on the Château’s grounds, providing you with privacy and tranquillity, sheltered by its high stone walls. As an added bonus, it adjoins the restaurant, Le Petit Jardin.

La Chenevière offers its guests spacious and refined rooms. The unique decoration of each of them harmoniously combines the charm of the old and modern comfort. The wood paneling and marble fireplaces contribute to the enchantment that only old residences can offer.
