Perched at the top of the slopes of the Solaise ski area in Val d'Isère, Le Refuge invites you to recharge your batteries in the face of the mountains and their soothing landscapes. To stay here is to live to the rhythm of the light surrounded by grandiose panoramas, in an environment spared the tumult and bustle of the world below.
Le Refuge houses rooms dressed in wood and fabrics, a cozy dormitory, 4 private apartments, several restaurants, a SPA and its 25-meter swimming pool: a veritable cocoon at altitude.
Rooms & Apartments
The establishment has 16 rooms and suites, 4 apartments from 75 to 380 m2 (up to 18 people) and a cosy dormitory for families and groups of friends (up to 14 people).
Stone walls and local wood, chic furnishings dressed in wool, velvet and leather, sunny terraces, large picture windows overlooking the valley: the spirit of the place is warm and turned towards nature.
Restaurants & Bars
• Gigi Val D'Isère
Perched at 2,250 metres above sea level, the Gigi Val d’Isère restaurant has made its home at Le Refuge de Solaise, the highest hotel in the Alps. The interior décor by Hugo Toro, who also worked on the Gigi restaurants in Paris and Saint-Tropez, is reminiscent of seventies trends and details straight out of a beautiful mountain chalet.
Aside from the graphic print carpet, you will find dark wood panelling, terracotta-colour benches that extend along the whole length of the room and large rattan lampshades. A particular highlight of the restaurant is the view, which embraces the snow-capped peaks and makes Gigi THE place to be for accomplished skiers. On the plate, the chef brings together a selection of Italian specialities such as pizza with black truffle, lasagne topped with Parma ham and Beaufort cheese, and spaghetti with langoustines.
• The Little Refuge
Le Petit Refuge offers homemade pizzas and several pasta dishes, served in the cheerful and relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.
Lunch 7 days a week.
• The Bar du Refuge
The Bar du Refuge welcomes skiers throughout the day into the warm and cosy ambience to enjoy the wide-ranging view of the mountains.
Snacks are served by the fire after 16:00 following a day on the slopes, with treats including homemade cookies, cakes and biscuits and hot drinks.
In the evening, it’s the perfect meeting place for friends and families to enjoy delicious cocktails developed by the mixology masters.
SPA & Wellness
Take refuge in the breathtaking setting of the Spa, nestled at an altitude of 2551 meters in the heart of a majestic mountain. The Spa du Refuge is the ideal place to experience a timeless moment, offering the ultimate escape in an exceptional natural setting.
The experts unveil a range of rituals specially designed to prepare you for a day on the slopes, recharge your batteries on your return from skiing, or enjoy unique outward-looking experiences to reconnect with yourself and nature.
The Spa du Refuge boasts a 25-meter swimming pool and two Jacuzzis from which to admire the valley and snow-capped peaks. This cosy cocoon includes two hammams, four treatment areas, including a private treatment suite for couples, and a beauty salon.
This haven of warmth extends outside with a sauna, hot tub and polar bath, offering breathtaking views over the valley and allowing you to enjoy multi-sensory experiences in a sumptuous setting.
History
The Solaise cable car was Val d’Isère’s frst ski lift, built between 1939 and 1942.
The choice of location was determined very much by the challenging nature of the various descents and it is that choice which largely contributed to the reputation of Val d’Isere and would later justify such slogans as Val d’Isere "Mecca of Ski" and "Resort of Champions".
La Tête de Solaise and its surrounding area also enjoy the longest daily sunshine of the entire resort - hence the name Solaise! Over the past 74 years this lift has transported millions of skiers, snowboarders and nature lovers.
Starting in 2018 the original upper cable car station will be completely renovated and transformed into a luxury hotel nestling at 2551m.
From the amazing promontory overlooking the village of Val d’isere Jean-Charles Covarel and Jean-Claude Borel are creating a unique experience in France and the highest altitude hotel in the country: Le Refuge de Solaise.
From December 2020, the Refuge will be twinned with a 50 rooms hotel in the centre of Val d’isere, the Base Camp.
In a prime location close to the old village and the snow front, the Base Camp will ofer marvellous 200° views encompassing the source of the Isère to the East and the Face of Bellevarde to the South West. The base camp will serve as the initial reception area for the Refuge and will provide both a fallback solution as well as the alternative location for dual centre village - high mountain vacations.
The Refuge will only be accessible via the ski slopes and the new Solaise Gondola lift so that when the ski lifts close we will be cut of from the rest of the world.
Once there and in the silence that follows the closing of the lifs we feel an intense one-ness with the mountains as we feast on the 360° views and discover unexpected confort at this altitude.
