Location
Located in the very heart of the picturesque village on the lively main street, the Bahnhofstrasse, in close proximity to sports and souvenir shops, ski school and mountain guide offices, banks and post office. The railway station, mountain railways, cablecars and bus stops are all within walking distance.

History
Steeped in tradition, the Hotel Monte Rosa was the first hotel in the Matterhorn village. The hotel opened in 1839 by the local doctor, it was at the time the only village inn, boasted three rooms and was taken over by the Seiler family in 1853. Its guests include Edward Whymper, the first conqueror of the Matterhorn, and numerous other mountaineers. Over the years the hotel has been extended and refurbished on several occasions. It was upgraded to meet the demanding standards currently expected of an international hotel, yet without losing the homely atmosphere and charm of a traditional turn-of-the-century alpine hotel. This is reflected in the various lounges and salons, the historical restaurant, one of the most beautiful in the Alps, and Edward’s Bar-Café.

41 rooms and suites are equipped to the highest standard of comfort and convenience. Monte Rosa has 6 categories and within these categories the rooms are all different in size and shape. Some have balcony or connecting doors, some are modern and the others are cosier.
