An example of one-day guided tour of Reims

Guided tour: Saint-Remi basilica (UNESCO World Heritage)

40 minutes

The basilica is a real encyclopaedia of the 11th to 16th centuries, with several stained-glass windows dating back to the 12th century. The architecture is amazing because of its elegance and its balanced proportions: the impression is one of true peace and harmony. In the crypt you will find the relics of Saint-Remi, the bishop who christened Clovis, king of the Franks, in the 5th century. That event was followed by a long tradition of French kings being crowned specifically in Reims.

Guided tour of the Taittinger champagne house

1 hour 20 minutes

Visit of Ruinart, Veuve Cliquot or Pommery also possible.

Taittinger is undeniably a major champagne house which was established in 1734, that is to say 9 years before the famous Moët! During the tour, you will descend 18-20m below the ground, into former chalk quarries from the 3rd to 4th centuries A.D., which have been redesigned for wine ageing. After you learn all about the house's history and the champagne wine making process, a tasting will complete the visit.

LUNCH

Guided tour on foot in the historical city centre of Reims

1 hour 30 minutes

Reims has a small, but captivating and colourful historical city centre. The visit will start at the foot of a Roman triumphal arch dating back to the 3rd century A.D. Then you will discover: the Boulingrin market, a fascinating building which belongs to a champagne house in the heart of the city, the town hall – one of the most beautiful buildings in Reims, the ancient Forum square, the elegant Royale square and the Tau palace, former residence of archbishops.

Guided tour of the Notre-Dame cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage)

1 hour 30 minutes

The Notre-Dame cathedral is one of the most magnificent and harmonious Gothic cathedrals in the world. This 800-year old monument is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The outer decorations are exceptionally ornate – they feature 2,303 sculptures – and the cathedral also showcases a vast collection of stained-glass windows from the 13th to 21st centuries.
Following an age-old tradition, that is where French monarchs were crowned for many centuries.

In the evening, you will attend a free "Light and Music" show, with animated pictures projected on the cathedral facade.
